2. The App — On-Device Processing

2.1 AI Chat and Conversations

All language model inference in offgridAI runs locally on your device using on-device GGUF model files. Your conversations, prompts, and the model's responses are:

• Processed entirely within your device's CPU/GPU
• Stored only in your device's local app storage
• Never transmitted to any server, API endpoint, or third party
• Never used to train or improve any model

Deleting the app or clearing its data permanently erases all conversation history.

2.2 Wiki Packs and Offline Knowledge

Downloaded ZIM-format wiki packs and their sidecar search indexes are stored in your device's local storage. All searches within these packs are performed locally. No search queries are transmitted externally.

2.3 Sensor Data

offgridAI's field instruments screen (Tools tab) accesses the following device sensors, subject to your permission grants:

• Location / GPS
• Accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer
• Barometer
• Ambient light sensor
• Pedometer / motion activity
• Battery status

Sensor readings are displayed in real-time and are never stored beyond your current app session, and never transmitted to any external service.

2.4 Model and Wiki Pack Downloads

When you download an AI model or wiki pack, your device makes an HTTPS request to our content delivery infrastructure. This is technically necessary and involves:

• Your IP address — temporarily processed by our CDN/server to route the download. Standard server access logs may retain this for up to 30 days for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
• The file you requested — model or wiki pack identifier.
• Date and time of the request.
• Standard HTTP headers (device OS, HTTP client version).

No account, email address, or personal identifier is required or collected during downloads. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating a secure download infrastructure.

3. The Website (offgrid-ai.app)

3.1 Server Logs

When you visit our website, our hosting provider automatically collects standard server log data including your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and page visited. This data is used solely for security and technical operation of the website and is deleted within 30 days. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

3.2 No Cookies, No Tracking, No Analytics

This website does not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics), social media plugins, or any form of behavioral profiling. We do not build user profiles.

3.3 External Fonts

This website loads Space Grotesk typeface from Google Fonts. This results in a connection to Google's servers, which may log your IP address. We use the display=swap parameter and standard font preloading. Google's privacy policy applies to this connection: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

The legal basis for this is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in delivering a readable website). If you wish to prevent this, you can disable web fonts in your browser settings.

4. Third-Party App Store Platforms

offgridAI is distributed via Apple App Store and Google Play Store. When you download and purchase (or install for free) the app, Apple and Google collect data according to their own privacy policies:

We have no control over and bear no responsibility for the data collected by these platforms as part of their standard app distribution processes.

5. Children's Privacy

offgridAI is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@offgrid-ai.app and we will delete it promptly.

6. Data Retention

Since offgridAI does not collect personal data in the app, there is no retention to manage on our side for in-app activity. For website server logs and CDN download logs, data is retained for a maximum of 30 days. Support correspondence (if you email us) is retained for up to 3 years as necessary to handle your request, then deleted.

7. International Data Transfers

Our download infrastructure and web hosting may use servers located within the EU/EEA or in countries with an EU adequacy decision. If any data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (e.g., EU Standard Contractual Clauses) in compliance with Chapter V GDPR.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect any data we process against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Our website uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. Download infrastructure uses HTTPS. All in-app data is stored in your device's sandboxed storage, inaccessible to other apps.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide in-app notification where reasonably possible. Continued use of offgridAI after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
